Wendy (Owner)

Wendy was a school science teacher and deputy principal, and never thought she'd own a bookstore. She bought Time Out thirteen years ago, and has never looked back. Wendy loves a dark read - We Need to Talk About Kevin, Monster Love and The Devil All the Time are huge favourites but then is very dedicated to her old favourites Anna Karenina and The Woman in White. Here's Wendy dressed as The Naughtiest Girl in the School at our Christmas Party.

Jenna (Manager)

Jenna has been at Time Out since 2010 and manages the store alongside working as a freelance photographer (a great combination!) Jenna has an eclectic mix of favourite books; but number one book is currently The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnston (Pulitzer Winner 2013) and number one author is David Sedaris. Jenna was very lucky to be a recipient of the 2014 Kobo Booksellers NZ Winter Institute Scholarship in Seattle and won Young Book Retailer of of the Year for 2015.

Ian Craig Young Brown (2IC)

Ian Brown grew up in Canada, but is actually half a New Zealander too! He has a degree in English, is wonderful director of music videos (see here) and loves film (so he has both movie & book recommendations aplenty.) He's also in a band called Dad Jokes. His current favourite books are Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut, In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje, Revenge by Yoko Ogawa and the Complete works of H.P. Lovecraft.

Claire Duncan

Claire has been with us since 2012. Apart from bookselling, she works as a freelance writer and makes the most amazing music. She has put out two albums as Dear Time's Waste and is currently working under her new name, i.e crazy,

Cait Kneller

Cait is currently completing a Bachelor in Design. As well as working at Time Out, she also interns with Juliette Hogan. She LOVES Lemony Snicket and tell you all about the series at any opportunity!

Wyo Paul

Wyo was also hired after spending many hours as a child in the Children's room. She's just finished studying psychology and politics and has a wonderful talent for writing. Her favourite books are Middlesex, Red Dragon, the Chaos Walking Series and The End Specialist by Drew Magary.  She's currently working on her first novel and has been writing essays for The Spinoff.

Ally Bijl-Brown

Ally was ALSO found in the Kid's room and she works here part time while studying a conjoint Bachelor of Sciences in Public Health/Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She has so many favourite books and we are going to share them all! Birds Without Wings, The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness, The Bell Jar, Simon Mawer, Margaret Atwood, The 13.5 Lives of Captain Bluebear and any picture books by Anthony Browne and Colin Thompson.

Suri Reddy

We found Suri at Frasers Café! As well as making a fantastic coffee, she is a very enthusiastic reader. She believes that some of the most interesting stories are told by people who've long been overlooked as arbiters of art and culture. Women, people of colour and members of the LGBT community are all creating incredible intersectional art and writing that we should all be reading! Suri has a Bachelor of Arts (Politics.)

Olivia is our part time Children's Room alphabetiser and organiser. Her favourite book is Fangirl. She loves hanging out with her friends, going on Recreate outings and listening to music. We hired Olivia in association with Poly-Emp Charitable Trust.

Lucinda is our part time cat worker, she comes in when she feels like an outing from her Parnell dwellings. When she's here, you'll find her curled up on the counter or hidden among the shelves. Her favourite books are Cat Hats and I Could Pee on This.
