Nate has a backlist pick from the kids’ room today.
“It says a lot about these books that my ex listened to the audiobook almost every night to get to sleep and I still never tired of it. I think we often underestimate child readers, thinking that their books should be sanitised. Kids are capable of so much more than we often give them credit for - which is something the best children’s authors recognise. Pullman’s series is exciting and full of wonder; daemons, talking polar bears who wear armour, portals between worlds and an adventuring ballooner. They are books to come back to over and over again (I’d know) and a fitting example that authors writing for children have just as much talent as those writing for adults- I’d put these books up proudly in the company of the accepted classics. I loved them as a kid and I still love them now. With these stories Pullman achieved something incredibly special.”

On today’s @95bfm_breakfast Loose Reads, Suri will be reviewing @thebookerprizes longlisted, Endling by Maria Reva. Tune in after the 9am news.
